At Hotham music is an important part of the creative ethos of the school: it is part of everyday life. In addition to weekly music assemblies, all classes have one dedicated music lesson a week given by the specialist music teacher. The music curriculum includes performing in song and with our many percussion instruments; composing in groups and listening and appraising. In year 4 all children have the opportunity to learn the clarinet led by a wonderful music teacher from the Wandsworth music hub. We also offer piano, violin, continuer clarinet and flute lessons.
At Hotham there are three choirs: the school choir, the community choir and a small chamber choir (the one o’clock club). Hotham has a great tradition of outside performances and concerts we have given include performing at the annual Mayor’s Christmas charity concert; the Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra Christmas concert; and Putney switching on Christmas lights. Several of the children took part in an orchestral day at Staines preparatory school and this year some string players performed with a visiting orchestra.
It is vital to keep music alive at Hotham and we will do all that we can to maintain our provision.
