Creative and Performing Arts
At Hotham the children are passionate about having as many opportunities as possible to experience and develop their performing arts skills. It is a joy to have singing and performing as part of the ethos of creativity and learning that is Hotham. Each year children from Nursery up to Year 6 are involved in some form of production from the Early Years’ Christmas and Easter sing-alongs, to KS1 Nativities, Year 3 & 4 mini productions in French and Year 5 & 6 grand finale! Alongside this, each class show cases their work through a class assembly, twice a year.
Music plays an integral part in the life of everyone at Hotham, from the tiniest child to the oldest member of staff. All children have class music lessons from a specialist music teacher. The lessons are wide-ranging, teaching the key elements of music (rhythm, tempo, dynamics, pitch, structure, timbre and texture) through a breadth of study that includes performance, composition and appraisal in a variety of styles and ethnicity.
The children’s enthusiasm is shared by the staff with teachers and teaching assistants organising various after-school performing arts clubs including Dance, Cheer-Leading, Drama, Line-Dancing, to name a few.
